SOUNDIMENSION: The story of a vision
To set the stage, let’s go back in time for some context. In 1997, when Soundimension was founded, the professional sound industry was dominated by “Public Address” horn-loaded speaker systems. At the time, there was no particular demand for audio systems capable of reproducing deep bass frequencies below 50 or 60 Hz. But why talk about the need for a high-performance subwoofer here?
It’s simple: in 1997, rap and electronic music were booming. Fans of these genres were looking for powerful bass that made the ground—and their pants—vibrate! However, most audio systems of the time were designed for higher resonance frequencies, unable to fully satisfy this bass-hungry audience.
That’s when Ismael “SiKo” Antico, at just 23 years old, decided to change the game. With a modest budget, he sourced a PA system from the United States—signed by Cerwin-Vega—which, at an affordable price, featured subwoofers capable of reaching down to 30 Hz.
Fueled by the enthusiasm of his clients, who embraced this new sound wave, Soundimension provided sound for concerts and DJ events for four years. Many international artists, such as 113, Faf Larage, and Secteur A in French rap, as well as DJ Riz, Mister Cee, Rahzel, and the first Zurich Street Parade, placed their trust in the company. And that’s just a glimpse…
Thus, Soundimension was born—a sound reinforcement company dedicated to modern urban and electronic music.
Coming from a family of musicians—with a father who was a bassist, guitarist, songwriter, and composer—Ismael grew up in a musical environment shaped by influences such as The Police, Toto, Bob Marley, and Grandmaster Flash. From an early age, he developed a passion for audio engineering. Against the advice of his family and friends, he pursued a sound engineering degree at SAE College in Geneva, graduating in 2001 at the top of his class.
The next step was natural: alongside his live sound work, he founded Soundimension Studio. Located in the Coupole area of Biel/Bienne, the studio is still active today and has welcomed numerous local and international artists for recording, mixing, and mastering their music.
Soundimension Live continues to thrive. As a senior sound engineer, Ismael is now contracted for system tuning, as well as FOH (Front of House) and MON (Monitor) engineering for concerts, festivals, corporate events, and conferences for international clients.
In 2014, a 19-year-old Dario “Russo” Negro walked through the door. He wanted to do an internship and had a vision of creating his own business while launching his career as a sound engineer and producer. In the meantime, Dario went back and forth between the US and France, notably in Los Angeles and Paris, where he made several great connections with renowned producers and artists, notably with Josh Wei (Charli XCX, Gentle Bones, Stray kids) and Nick Lee (Lil Nas X, Ariana Grande, SZA, Kenny Beats) with whom he got to develop his taste in production and songwriting. After several years of travel abroad and simultaneous apprenticeship at the studio, and demonstrating unwavering loyalty and dedication, Dario officially joined Soundimension in 2020, right after finishing his Bachelor’s degree.
As a fresh graduate of Berklee College in Boston MA, Dario is responsible for production, sound design and recording at the studio. As a songwriter, singer, and composer, he also produces, mixes, and masters tracks under the Soundimension banner. Meanwhile, Ismael focuses primarily on online mixing and mastering services, catering to smaller collectives / labels looking for high-quality professional online solutions, as well as major companies.
Soundimension Studio has grown into two separate entities based in Biel/Bienne, working with flawless synergy. The vision was to merge these two structures under a single name, offering clients a more comprehensive and cohesive range of services, whilst being extremely efficient in keeping a tight schedule and fast delivery time whenever needed.
Today, Soundimension Studio boasts over 300 million streams, gold and platinum certifications, and a plethora of satisfied artists and clients worldwide. Thanks to you, the adventure continues!
FAQs
What format should I use to send my files ?
• WAV, 24 or 32 bit, Sample Rate 44.1kHz (Ideally, of course the best being the recording frequency used in the actual session/mix)
• Please beware of limiting your tracks, especially for mastering !
Why do I need a specific Mastering for vinyl record ?
Vinyl mastering is a specific type of processing to make sure your vinyl won’t skip during playback. There’s a special treatment when it comes to low end and stereo image, among other small tweaks that are necessary in order to achieve an optimal master for vinyl.
What is an ISRC code, what is it for and when to send it ?
• The ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is an international means of identification of sound-recordings and music-video. ISRC codes are primarily used to identify and catalog individual tracks on an album. The ISRC allows you to get paid for digital music sales by ensuring that your royalties are tracked properly.
• Once you release your master on DSPs, your distributor of choice (e.g. DistroKid) will automatically provide you with an ISRC code for your master. If you need it for DDP encoding, you can use the exact same code and send it to us afterwards.
